Jan 2007~I've reviewed 3 more sites and will be adding them shortly.
Many of the greedy money makers on the web would prefer I didn't
publish this information. They want to charge you money for what is available for absolutely free... Totally
free dating sites! Yes, they are all free to join as they say, but on many sites you won't be able to actually use the site
without paying first (they don't tell you until after you've spent a considerable amount of time joining) so have a look at
'my favourites' first if you want genuine free, fully functional dating sites.
Internet dating and dating sites
Chances are if you're reading this you're either new to internet dating or are dissolusioned with the site(s) you have
been visiting, so read on and just maybe I can help in your search for that 'elusive one', or maybe even some new friends.
The most common question I get asked is, "Does internet dating really work?" The simple answer
is yes it does for a few and no it doesn't for the majority BUT, there are ways to increase the odds for it to work
for you.
Firstly make sure your profile is up to scratch. I won't say any more about profile writing here because there's a separate
page on profiles and not enough room on this page anyway, but it's very important as is your choice of name, also on the
profiles page, so remember this, In the real world, the first step in meeting someone would be to catch their eye so that they
know you've noticed them. So, treat your profile in the same way.
Next, don't set your 'seeking' criteria in concrete. Many a match that could only be described as made in heaven, but
was made on a dating site has eventuated because people were more open in their wants/needs in a potential partner. If you're
looking for a Brad Pitt or Angelina Jolie look alike only, then you are most likely to be s**t out of luck. If for example
you are a 5' 8" tall woman and like men taller than yourself, don't write a 5' 8" tall man off out of hand without first meeting
him. You never know, he could be perfect in every other way. If you must stipulate criteria, use the word preferably...just
in case, and your chances of meeting your perfect match will increase substantially.
Lastly, but just as importantly, don't hesitate to send a message to someone who interests you even if you're the shy
type. You may not feel comfortable approaching someone in a club or bar, but with the anonymous nature of the internet,
the worse that could happen is he/she replying with a "thank you but no thank you," or horrors of all horrors, you get
no reply at all!
So, without compromising your safety (yeah I know, another page to read but it's very important you do read it) don't wait to be approached
but instead be more proactive.
Oh yeah, I nearly forgot this other important tip.
Check back on the site as often as possible. There are several reasons for this, and one is that most dating sites show
when you were last online, and you don't want to appear as a 'part timer'. Another reason to check in often is there are lots
of new people joining, on some sites by the hour, and you wouldn't want to miss out on the best of the newbies.
Finally, someone interesting might email you and if you only logged in occasionally, they will certainally be put off
by having to wait a week for a reply.
If you're serious, show you're serious, and if you follow all the tips above, your chances of meeting that someone
special will be greatly increased.
Why join the mailing list? Because it's a good way to keep up with what's new on the dating scene without
having to search this site. All you'll get is info on any new dating sites, special prices they may have or any changes they
may have made. Each topic will have a link direct to the page where the info is. The newsletter is only occasional and you
will not recieve any spam or third party emails. Like you I hate spam, so your email address will never
be given to any third party and every newsletter has an unsubscribe link on it that really works. Now, humour me and join
up.
Which dating site?
With the growing popularity of online dating, the following is an overview of some of the ever increasing number of online
introduction/dating websites. Included are the good and not so good points about each one.
It can be quite time consuming registering, as dating sites require quite a lot of information (not personal, but about
you and what you're looking for) in order to make it easier for you to search and for others to search for you. Most
don't tell you if or how much it's going to cost you until after the lengthy registration process, so hopefully the following
information will help you decide which site is best for you while saving you time and possibly money.
Which type of site is better is a bit of a lottery. Generally, you can expect to find more serious people on sites where
you have to pay. On the other hand, free sites are likely to have more profiles on the books but can be quite time consuming
sorting out the wheat from the chaff.
All online dating sites require registration before you can use the service. Some are totally free
to use and some require payment. Some though have free trial periods. Still others have a mix of membership levels
ranging from free for fairly basic functions, to premium paid membership which allows more access to messageboards, allows
more photos to be uploaded to a profile, plus many more privileges.
I can by no means cover all of the sites but will be adding my opinion of the sites I have had
experience with and will continue to add more progressively.
I know what you're thinking...."Stop rambling on and show me the reviews!"....just keep scrolling
and reading and all will be revealed.

Note:
Just because a website has a .co.nz, .net.nz etc name doesn't necessarily mean it is
a NZ site, or even caters for NZ members. Anyone from anywhere can get a .nz domain name for about $39 a year, and overseas
based dating sites only need to add a couple more pages to their websites and hey presto, a "NZ dating site!" They would only
need to get one paying member a year to cover that small cost, so it's well worthwhile them doing it. Some (not all) are a
complete waste of our time and money.

dating site http://www.kiwidatez.co.nz has only been online
for a couple of months and as yet membership is fairly small but growing. It's well laid out, easy to navigate and is visually
appealing too. I can't really say much more as I only joined today (11 Mar) and I've posted the features below anyway. I'll
keep you posted with updates. If you hurry, they're giving away free 6 months gold membership to the next 200 members
to join. I'll be adding this site to my recommendations page.

http://www.findsomeone.co.nz Large membership and an easy to navigate well laid out site. According to
feedback from members there appears to be more genuine people looking to meet and date than on many other sites. This site
can be joined for free but really requires paid membership to use all the functions and features, like sending a first
message. Abuse is not tollerated. $19.95 per month, and although there are cheaper monthly charges for fixed term
memberships, it is in the upper price range for a NZ site but reasonable by international site prices.
http://www.datefinder.co.nz Smallish membership but is a fairly new dating site. A quick look at when members were last on the site
shows it is used by only a small number of members on a regular basis, and those that do use it appear only to be there to
chit chat on the messageboards. There is free membership which allows members to pretty much use all the features but
not the chat room. Paid membership gives members more photos, emoticons and the ability to see which members are
currently online. Update: This site is monitored and heavily moderated which for some may be a
good thing, but from feedback from members, even content which doesn't fall outside their terms of use is removed from messageboards,
and therefore (in my opinion) constitutes censorship of opinion. A quick surf of the messageboards showed more moderators
than members. Update 2: In the 2 months I've been a member of this 'dating site' I haven't even
recieved one message, but don't let that put you off joining because that's just my experience. In conclusion, I wouldn't
use this as a primary dating site but there's no harm in being a member along with some of the better ones. Update
3: I've now received one message and that was from a 22 year old Russian woman, and that's in 3 months. Update 4: Membership seems to be growing and it appears the paid premium membership is now free.
Message board usage is also growing and thankfully there isn't more moderators than members. $10 per
3 months or $20 for 6 months is one of the cheapest paid memberships I've seen yet, but http://www.nzconnectdirect.co.nz is cheaper and has more features.
http://www.nzconnectdirect.co.nz Wow, what can I say about this one? After
some minor initial teething problems, this site must rate as one of, if not the best NZ
dating site. It has it all and more! Although there isn't a huge membership yet, the membership numbers are genuine. Unlike
most sites, the administrators delete all memberships that have been inactive for 3 months. Most sites have many members that
haven't logged in for, in some cases years, but they retain them in order to attract more members because the site appears
to be popular. I've been a member for a few months now and am having a ball interacting with other members. Be warned
though that this site can easily become addictive. Included in the large number of free features are:
- Contact all members
- Reply to all profiles
- Post your own profile including 10 photos. (Adult photos are
allowed but only in your picture album)
- Password protect individual photos
- View all profiles and photo
- Chatrooms (Private, General and Adult)
- Forums (General and Adult)
- Classified Ads - Buy, Sell, Wanted etc
- View members intimate and not so intimate stories in the stories
section.
There is a very cheap
gold (paid) membership with additional features such as:
- View photo albums (see more of them)
- Be invisible
- Use the Webcams in the chatrooms - Broadcast to multiple members
- Transfer files to other members - Block annoying members on webcam & IM ..and much more
- Change your email address
- Use of your outbox
- Use of
your savedbox
- Forward messages you receive
- Use the advanced search
- Search by Zodiac Sign
- Block annoying members
Is it worth paying for 'gold' membership? Oh yes! It's worth it even just for the live web cam shows in the
adult chat room. A word of warning though. If you are offended by sexually explicit content don't go into the adult chat
room, but if you're not, get your credit card ready!

At 3 months $9.95, 12 months $34.95 is THE cheapest site but
with all the usual (and more) whistles and bells of the expensive ones. |
http://www.kiwisingles.homestead.com There's not a lot to say about this one except it states it was last updated in March 2001. There's no
join up process except to send an email to a yahoo email address. There's only a home page which lists two (yes 2) 'profiles'.
